On Friday there was an update: “Windows Live Essentials 2011” - which allowed you to select the items you wanted. As I only use “Windows Live Mail” I updated that - Big Mistake! Apart from looking better than it did previously, and is more streamlined - it’s proving to be a pain! On my machine, it’s temperamental - sometimes opening promptly - otherwise it takes for ages. The same applies when you click on a new email - and it can open them promptly - or take ages - and then the panel “whites out” and you’re offered a few choices: to close the programme, wait for a response, etc.
Have done a quick search and there seems to be a number of people having problems with this particular download - KB2434419, and, of course, once installed it cannot be removed!
Looks as though I shall have to find another email program!

Thanks Meryl - but, possibly not as simple as that! With yours - it was, I think, the email program with your ISP. Here it’s via good old Microsoft - and don’t particularly want to contact them (the last time I did it was a 10p a minute call lasting 45 mins!). As I mentioned others are having problems with the full update - I only had the email part. I’ll give a couple of more days - if it remains the same, then I think a different email proggy is called for.

It was Microsoft who downloaded mine yesterday morning, I was asked what I wanted and I chose just the Live mail
Me too! But - mine seems to be temperamental - or just giving me a hard time! It could, of course, be something with my computer - but, it (Windows Live) was working fine - then came the update - now it does it's own thing. Sometimes opening quickly - then it takes forever . . ! The same happens when you want to open a new email. Aargh!
Update: Have just searched using "KB2434419 problems" (that's the number of the complete update) - one little glimmer of hope was "I believe M$ is aware of the problem and is working on it to issue a fix."

Hi Trigger I to use the MS mail and did the download update and it did muck one bit of my MS Live Mail but that has now corrected itself. I have hotmail, and the windows live options and my live space and Live lounge have gone but as I did not use them I am not worried. I have also got Yahoo and Virgin as mail portals (and then there is the two company ones) I prefer MS, though I think Yahoo is horrible Virgin is even worse, and then there are many more mail clients which can be used it is hard to find one which you can like straight away (then they change IT)

I don't know which version of Windows you use but in Vista you can uninstall updates by going into the Control Panel>Programs>Programs and Features>View Installed Updates (shown in the left panel under "Tasks"). Then highlight the update you wish to remove then Click on "Uninstall"

Trigger, I've just looked on my wife's netbook which is Windows 7 and it is identical to Windows Vista in the Control panel so you should still be able to uninstall it.

John: Thanks for suggestion - will have a look tomorrow when I hope I'll be in better mood with this email thingy than I am at the moment - having just done battle with it once again - and I've definitely gone off this "Live Mail" update.
Meryl: Thanks for suggestion - don't know if sytem restore will do this. Will try John's suggestion first, though as will, hopefully, work . . and I can get rid of it.

It should remove via the restore as Windows is set to make a restore point on every update or install of software BUT we are talking Windows here....... If your restore does work go to the Windows update site and "hide" the Windows Live update or it will be downloaded again to your machine and then you'll have a hell of a job telling the system NOT to install the updated files.

Followed your advice nikkai - and (roll on drums!) - it worked! I set the System Restore to two days before the Windows Live up. Then got an “Updates Available” message to replaced the five updates I’d removed - so I unticked the “Windows Live Essentials 2011”. My “Live Mail” is now back to the previous edition - thank goodness!
Thanks nikkai - and to all who offered help/advice. Meryl - I didn’t doubt you - honestly!

Well I have given myself the kiss of death with Windows Live I have a notification that there is a new message but and here is the but I can not find it? I've looked in the unopened mail section and through every one of the mail accounts which is linked to my mail reader but still the elusive mail is not to be seen Even done a reboot but nothing except the notification of new mail, when I send myself mail I get the two new mail but only get to read ONE (the one I sent)
ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRrrrrrrrrgh Windows!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

nikkai - You lurve Windows actually - admit it - otherwise you would have bought an Apple Mac!
Oh dear, I feel partially responsible for the appearance of the Mysterious, Vanishing E-mail!
I think you’ll have to do your Relaxation Exercises, chant your Mantras - and remember that computers have a mind of their own - when they want to! Good hunting!

A Mac ? err shall I admit that I have one..... OK so it is now a non working version of a state of the art lump of plastic and aluminium I managed to kill it in such a way the magic blue and white smoke that powered it escaped through the little vent at the back never to be coaxed back to the internal workings where Apple meant it to stay. . Have done another reboot but the pesky mail was still missing so I turned off the task bar notification and low and behold the mail notification stayed there until another reboot and now has gone even with the task bar icons back on there is no mail to look for, I wait to see if I get any mail and the new mail notifier tells me the right number?
Oh and yes I do prefer Windows to Mac but then I have used Windows for many years and only had Mac for about 3 months. I tried to use one of the open source OS but that drove me to distraction so I came back to XP and Vista, I now have Vista and W7 but use Vista more then W7.

Meryl I had problems with all my Talktalk email accounts a few days ago (including an old 'Lineone' account which I still have active - they are Talktalk as they were taken over by Tiscali) and I couldn't log on via webmail, either. It sorted itself out overnight. I think Funkychick had similar problems with her Tiscali account fairly recently. I guess they (Talktalk) are doing some updates.

I appreciate that TalkTalk cannot be responsible for Windows Mail Live. You didn't say if you could view and send emails in Webmail (logging-on on the TalkTalk website). If you can then it may be a problem with your Windows Live Mail program.
