Why is it that when I go to post on a thread on this site (and it is only this site) that I get chucked off, it's the same when I send a personal message? I lose the site as though my internet has gone, but it hasn't. This has been happening for a few days now. No problems on any other sites. I get a message saying Internet Explorer cannot open the internet site, operation aborted.

I've had all this for days. IE message almost every time I try to change a page or topic. Unable to post photos to the Dark Room. Some trouble with Facebook, although I very rarely ever go on there. FB sent me an apology without me even saying anything, and they said they are OK now. That was yesterday morning (Thursday). So, in their case, it was their site.

I'm also with BT East Point, but not having any problems. I have checked with an exchange-checker http://usertools.plus.net/exchanges/?exchange=Lowestoft&exact=628&plugin=vp and it has not reported any problems. I see you're in Pakefield and I'm in Carlton Colville, both south of the bridge so in the same general direction. Have you tried clearing all your Temporary Internet Files & cookies in case there's something in them that may be causing the problem?

I am with BT too and somes suffer a lost connection for a while. This has not happened recently, the reason they give is i am at the extremities of the exchange. I did hear they were updating to improve the situation

Have you tried to reboot your router or modem? The router may have a link with a poor connection or even require an update which it will (should) do automatically. In my Netgear instructions it tells me to turn off then turn back on after a few seconds then the router will log on and lock to the line to enable the service.

Thanks Nikkai and everyone. I have just 'Googled' this problem and it seems it is an Internet Explorer problem - I use that as my search engine. Nobody has come up with a real solution to the problem, according to Google, so may have to switch to another search engine, perhaps Firefox. Seems lots of folk are having this problem who use Internet Explorer. I have just had the same problem on a couple of other sites I go on too, so it isn't just this site after all.

I never get chucked off a site though

As I said before, I think it all stems from the 'new' equipment that BT fitted in the Lowestoft exchange a few weeks ago. Doesnt matter who you are with, if your ISP uses BT wiring then it will be affected. Naturally, BT will deny its their fault - typical company policy to deny everything.

East Point, Funckychick & Snowdrop - am I right in thinking that you are all within the stretch of LRS/Pakefield If so maybe it is something to do with the telephone lines that cover that general direction from the exchange so it would then be a BT line fault as I believe they are still responsible for the lines irrespective of who your ISP/telephone supplier is. I know when my daughter was having problems with her service (Talk Talk) it was BT Openreach who came out to resolve the problem - which in the end happened to be the master phone socket.

Your audio line and your ASDL lines have different types of signals the audio and ASDL can and do use the same phone wires in most cases the errors come from "noise" which the ASDL equipment see as wrong and terminate the same "noise" on a ordinary line is ignored.
Your talk phone and your ASDL possibly use the same wires and are split at the exchange.

ADSL = Asynchrynous Digital Subscriber Line (I think!).
ADSL is basically your internet signal. It is sent down the same line as your phone line, using high pitched sound normally to high to be heard by the human ear. That is why you use filters at home, to split the two different types of signal up into broadband and home phone.

Fibre optics in Lowestoft?! Hahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!
When I checked in June, BT had no date set for Lowestoft exchange to get fibre, and they had no plans to ever do it. Same goes for Virgin Media - no plans to ever connect Lowestoft to cable. We have to face it - Lowestoft is a blot on the horizon that would cost too much to connect to the rest of civilization!
The tiny village that my father lives in was actually the first place in the country to get connected to BT's Infinity fibre optic network - something to do with being next to the M25 corridor I believe. Unfortunately, he just signed a new 24 month contract with TalkTalk so is a little peeved! lol

This could be down to one or more of your line filters not doing what they are needed to do. If you have a master point and your land line is on an extension of that then try the phone in the master and see, then swap over the filter and again see what results you get if by magic your problem goes away then you can first try a new filter then have the extension replaced.
