I must get round to taking a photo of something that caught my eye the other day. Has anyone else noticed the 'Kill Your Speed' roadsign that stands at the entrance to Lowestoft Cemetery (Normanston Drive/Rotterdam Road corner). It appealed to my sense of humour!!

Thanks, Malcolm.
Thanks, funkychick, well you always did have better manners!
Hadn't noticed that one, Robbie, yes, please post it. Reminds me of a good one my dad saw in a churchyard, not Lowestoft. At the foot of a grave, with dead people all around, the words 'there is no death'. Must say whenever I'm in a graveyard I hope to see one as good as that.
But there are skull & crossbones on Lowestoft graves, they seem curious in this day & age. St Margarets is a good place to see them, this one came from there.

Another skull & crossbones, & also an hourglass showing time running out. Also St Margarets.

They couldn't seem to remember when this poor person died. 174 & six sevenths! Last one from St Margarets.

This was just before the calander change in 1752 and dual dates were quite common.
In that year the start of the year was changed from 25 March to 1 January. Prior to this, for many years, dates between 1 january and 24 March were written as both years.
Can be very confusing for historians, genealogists etc
See
http://www.adsb.co.uk/date_and_time/calendar_reform_1752/
for a much better explanation.

Thanks for that info Morty1753...is there any connection with your name 1753 being the first year after the calender change?
