Herring Industry - Stories and legends
« Posted: 14 August 2010 at 11:40 PM »
I would be interested to hear any stories/legends (funny or otherwise) on the Herring industry that thrived around a hundred years ago.
My own family is embedded in this industry:
Maternal side were fishermen and beetsters (net menders)
Paternal side was the William Elliott who co-founded Elliott & Garrood - manufacturers of the famous 'fishermans friend' steam capstan.

If you check the members' list "suffolk boy" (with the space) was registered first albeit he has posted only twice since he registered. I think it is a matter for the administrators to resolve this - if there is anything to resolve. We just have to be careful who we are replying to.
