The Grit, by Jack Rose and Dean Parkin
« Posted: 01 August 2010 at 06:31 PM »
Hi,
I'm a one-time native (Beccles actually) now in Texas, and I'm trying to find this book. The only copy I can see anywhere on the web is priced waaaaay out of my range, and Rushmere Publishing doesn't have a website (or even an existence??).
I wondered if anyone here has any insights on how I might get a copy (if only to borrow).
thanks

I borrowed a copy from Lowestoft Library, which unfortunately doesn't help you, rhb. I think it
may be
out of print now?
But here are Rushmere Publishings details:

I would suggest that you contact these people. They published it and did have a couple of copies some time ago. They certainly weren't cheap though. The number that comes to mind was £45 for a used copy.

Yeah, I'd thought of ILL (Inter Library Loan) from here. but no one seems to have it.
So Rushmere Publishing is still in business?
I appreciate the phone number, maybe I'll try to call them---Skype is the most wonderful thing in the Universe if you have friends and relatives an ocean away!
Thanks for the info.

There were only 500 copies of this book printed so that is why it is hard to find and expensive when it is found.I have several Jack Rose books but not this one.

I have a hard-backed copy of this book signed on a certificate (No. 26 of 500) in the book by the two authors. Didn't realise it was likely to be so sought-after. Must put it in the safe!!!
Amazon.co.uk have a seller asking £97 for it.

It says 'paperback' but it appears to be 'hardback'

Thought I would have a look at my collection of Lowestoft books and remind myself of the titles, have read all of them many times so here is what I have collected over the years,
1 Jack Rose's Changing Lowestoft. with Dean Parkin.
2 The Grit by Jack Rose and Dean Parkin
3 Living from the Sea By David Butcher.
4 Jack Rose's Lowestoft Life.
5 A Century of Lowestoft bt Ian G Robb
6 My Pakefield Scrap Book by John.W.Holmes
7 East Suffolk A portrait in old picture postcards by Michael Cox.
8 Lowestoft (Volume 1) A portrait in old picture postcards by Chris Brooks.
9 After the War was Over by Michael Foreman
10 War Boy by Michael Foreman.
11 War Game by Michael Foreman.
"
6,9,10,11 are my favourites as many of those included in the books and the Author Michael Foreman I knew, indeed I regard The After the War" book as a part of my own history as I do "My Pakefield Scrap Book.
I always thought of my collection as complete until it was posted on another topic there was another book about the 1953 floods,I have ordered this from the library, however I suspect I shall be looking for a copy to complete my collection as the memories of that night in 1953 and the next day will never be forgotten by myself.
Somewhat astounded at the price which is being asked of the "Grit book"
