Images of our English Countryside, its Wildlife. and Farm animals
« Posted: 24 May 2010 at 08:07 PM »
The magic of the English countryside with its variety of wildlife and farm animals never ceases to amaze me,so I thought it would be ideal if we could share our images which each of us are drawn to. I will start the ball rolling with a walk in the Drewray woods this afternoon looking for the deer which we were unable to find.

We are aware of the different species of ferns, however we have no idea what they are called,we have found it fascinating this last two weeks as the the floor of the woods has become alive with the ferns pushing their green tentacles up seemingly 3 inches a day.
The silver birches are now decorated in beautiful new olive green leaves as are the oak trees and in contrast the mighty copper coloured beech trees which are looking magnificent. The new growth now offers cover for the wildlife which makes it more difficult for us humans to see, however there are always a squirrel or rabbit taking a chance and skipping out in front of us,even had a partridge doing a runner down the lane in front of us today.
I have taken note this year of the crows building their nests mostly high in the trees and therefore am hopeful of a good summer perhaps,I also note that the holly trees in the woods have many small berries forming and am hoping this is not a sign of a severe winter, also the pyracanthas are heavy in flower this year, even more so than last year which is a sign of a very cold winter to come, lets hope the signs are wrong

This afternoon I sat in our garden for a little while to take photos of some of the birds which we are convinced come from the woods to our garden to feed.
