Bernard Maurice William Smith remarried Oct/Dec 1939 to Ada Champion Hale. Listed as a confectioner in the Kirkley burial register, he died 12/04/1956.
Any info concerning where in Lowestoft they lived, worked or anything would be welcome.

Hi Martin,

I've managed to find Bernard's Death Registration Details. Using the details below you might want to send for a copy of his Death Certificate, as this would give you his address, next of kin etc?

Death Registration:

Bernard Maurice William SMITH

Age: 69

Death Index, June Quarter, 1956

Registration District: Lothingland, Suffolk

Volume: 4b

Page:  797

You can apply for a copy of this Certificate online at:  General Register Office.

There is no mention of him  in the street directories but in 1961and 1963  there is a Mrs A. C. Smith residing at 188 London road South. this would have been a shop between what was then The Worlds Stores and Mattham the jeweller. Before and after this date it must have been an empty premises as it is not listed. No mention of confectionery anywhere.

Can only remember a confectioners called Giles on the other side of the road somewhere near Reg Regis's shop  but then just because he is buried in Kirkley doesnt mean his shop was in Kirkley I guess

A confectioner could mean a cake retailer.
