I visited friends this morning on a piece of land they own at Camps Heath. I must now go on this walk. I have seen what used to be The Army Barracks near Manor Field. The spot lights and anti aircraft guns were based there (part of Lowestoft s protection from raids during the war). Anybody Know anything about the mosaic floor found nearby? Quickly covered up by the farmer who did not want archaeologists tramping about. I understand the land is now owned by Suffolk County Council. Could the floor be Roman? Looking at the views it is the kind of place The Romans would like.

That sounds very interesting, malcolm. The Walk Organiser, Ivan Bunn, might know...he knows lots about Lowie history.

I wonder who they were and where they ended up .I can remember my mother saying that the were huts were a bit basic and impossible to heat .She was telling me about it several years after we'd left .After all it was an army camp .

Kerch -- I have a sister-in law who lived there when she first got married. "Sunny" will know who I mean, a relative of hers.

I believe it was temporary accomodation after the war for families who were displaced for one reason or another.
