searching for a great grandad « Posted: 10 December 2009 at 08:51 PM »

hi all i am searching for information about a skipper on the lowestoft lifeboat around 1900. his name was probably Mr Ellis. A Mr h. Jenkins of lowestoft took some famous photographs of him around 1916 i would think. these may have been used as part of the lifebouy toilet soap adverts of that period so my family inform me. i have looked in the lowestoft archives but not found him yet. i have no idea how to contact lowestoft lifeboat station for information ?

when you are searching for him ,try using the word Coxswain instead of skipper, that is the title for the man in charge of the lifeboat. Do you have a christian name for him.?
There was a Thomas [Brock] Ellis who was one of The Old Company Beachmen in 1900.

Yes Meryl, one of the Eliis family married into ours!  Very small world.  He has got back to me and has made contact with the lady I mentioned who will fill him in him with all the details. The man in the photo in Ford Jenkins window was Ned Ellis.  This ladies gt gt grandfather.  Hope you are well after your difficult year and have a wonderful Christmas.  God bless  wave
