No SD they have a notice in the window it used to be a tanning shop in Kirkley forgot what it was going to be called but they were advertising things like incense, hemp clothes etc which made me presume it was going to be a hippy shop

Shops come and go. I always wondered why Jarrolds moved off of High Street to a less visible location which was about the same size as the old place. It would take a severe reduction in rent to compensate for the reduced trade a hidden location would mean.
As for all of the charity shops.... What is first, the chicken or the egg? Do charity shops drive out nicer establishments, or would more foot traffic on High Street attract better shops and thus would thus drive out the charity shops? That's hard to say. If the Council simply made charity shops illegal on High Street in some sort of urban renewal plan, when they left would better shops come in to the vacated space? IMHO, I doubt it. I think that if better shops started coming in, then the landlords would see profits in attracting them and raise the rents high enough to force out the charity shops.

It would be nice to see more big names and different shops here, if they are supported which is questionable here. But we have to acknowledge charity shops obviously have a demand and are recycling whilst helping the charity and if the item purchased is cheap they help the less well off in society.

They will have to sort out the roads and the parking problems first before better shops will want to come to the town centre. There is an old saying you can tell
the decline of a town by the amount of charity shops cheap shops and second hand shops that are there.

Tattooist and Hairdressers seem to thrive here, so although we are going downhill fast we shall still all be able to have nice hair and painted bodies
To late for my hair (
or lack of it
) but there is plenty of body for some artwork
