Hello, I am searching for the above couple who lived at College Farm,(I believe it is now a housing estate) The old farmhouse still exists and is occupied by a company called Warnes and Sons They were living there in 1945 as tenant farmers, the land belonging to Magdalen College in Oxford who sold the farm in 1950. I am trying to find out when and where they died, if they had any children?. Any help would be most appreciated as I am 150 miles away and therefore not able to get to Lowestoft to look up any records. I would be very grateful for any help you are able to give me.

Hiya, I cannot help much, except to say that there was a son Jack who worked on the farm. When I was still at school, I spent most of my spare hours on this farm. I learned to milk cows by hand there, and was trusted to handle the Suffolk Punch carthorses - even taking three at a time quite a way by road to their pasture at the end of their working day. I was only about 11 or 12 years old at the time.

Further to the previous posting ....................... In those days "Jack" was not commonly used as a given or Christian name. It was more often used as a nickname. Nowadays it is more common. So, Jack may not have been his real name.

Many men whose names were actually "John" were called "Jack" in the 40's. Whilst doing my own Family History, I spent a lot of time looking for an 'Uncle Jack' who turned out eventually to be 'Uncle John'.

So John F. Kennedy's wife could have been called Johnnie Kennedy
Susan's dad was a John and he was always called Jack, why weren't these Johns called Jack in the first place, maybe if they were people would have called them John

One of the characters in The Importance of Being Ernest is known as Jack but his real name was Ernest (the reasons are made apparent in the play).

I went to Roman Hill Junior School when I was young and recall being friends with a Frances Boggis. I believe her dad was the greengrocer on the corner of Raglan Street? I'm now 53.

No, I didn't know any of Basil or Gordon's children,Sunny.I think the Holmes were related to them and they lived across from the butcher shop in Raglan Street ,and Josephine went to the Grammar school like I did and is about my age.I thought I saw her in Lowestoft last time we were there but I didn't speak to her as I could havebeen wrong.

Reginald William Boggis was born at Oulton Villa in January 1894, the 3rd child of James Boggis and Lucy Potter who had a farm/market garden in Oulton Road almost opposite College Farm.
Reg married Kate Futter in 1924 but she died in strange circumstances in 1927 at the age of 28. He married Grace Barber in Boston, Lincolnshire in 1928 and died in 1975 at the age of 81. Grace had passed-on in 1956 aged 63.
Several members of the Boggis family were butchers. Gordon Boggis, a cousin of Reginald, had the shop in Raglen Street (I remember his daughter), and his brothers Sidney and Roland were also in the meat trade. Reg's sister Ellen married Ben Saunders who had premises near to the Journal office, this was demolished when the High Street was widened.
Reginald was the brother of my wife's grandmother.

Hi m g w thanks for that information, it would have been Gordon who I knew then as we lived a bit higher than his shop in Raglan Street, I used to go in there for the meat that my mum wanted, we used to have a laugh about different things, they were always jolly in there.
