Lowestoft Loo's « Posted: 28 August 2009 at 06:29 PM »

I think Godfreys have the best Loo's in Lowestoft. Very modern and always really clean. They're a credit to the Store & a joy to use whilst shopping. Furthermore, they're free!  Smiley

If I had to choose between any of the Public Toilets and Godfreys, my vote would go to Godfreys every time.

The closure of the Loo's at Waterloo Road have caused a lot of discussion both locally and in the Press. Certainly less people seem to be using the Beach now between the Piers, and are opting instead to go South of the Claremont, where toilets are available. Of course, this also means some folk have probably voted with their feet & gone to another Resort, with more facilities.  Huh

The machine, & all the rubble, was removed yesterday afternoon. Now all that remains is for the area to be re-paved...or whatever WDC is going to do with it.

It's a game with me, never to spend money on car parks, even if I have to walk further. Which is a healthy thing to do anyway.
So  ....  I spend nothing in the car parks, and I promise never to even spend a penny at the seaward end of Waterloo Road ever again.

Strange seeing a CDC Demolition excavator in that picture as the company went into administration at the beginning of September, with all employees made redundant.  icon_scratch

I agree that godfreys is the cleanest loo the rest are awful, whilst on the subject of loos I think it is terrible that pakefield cliff toilets have been shut down,  they were very clean and a godsend to anyone who wanted a day on pakefield beach or just a nice walk along the cliffs.

Its the same all over. We've had toilets closed and demolished before anybody could say anything on Morecambe seafront. They've upgraded one block to superloos and expect people to be satisfied with those being the only ones for miles. It is a very long seafront too.

They have now been sold.  Shocked I wonder what will happen with the land now?  Huh  icon_scratch

When we were there last week there was a notice on the wall telling people to make sure there car was not parked there on a certain date, I think the 20th September, because it was going to be fenced of, I read the notice on the 25th but no fence had been erected.

There is opposition from the local residents about the sale of the land so it will be interesting to see what happens.

I wonder if the private sector would consider sponsoring the prominent public toilets in the way they sponsor roundabouts. Some "good-taste" advertising could be allowed.

I am a little surprised that the 'Big Society' aren't taking over the running of toilets as an example of how they can successfully replace public sector provision - they really need to publicise more their many excellent works or I foresee the public losing some of the immense pride and belief they have in them.
