Curiosity Capers « Posted: 10 June 2009 at 07:40 PM »

Hi all

Can anyone remember a junk/antiqes shop in London Road South called Curiosity Capers ?

I only went in there the once with my dad, probably the late 80's.  I just remember it being crammed full of nicknacks and furniture.  At that time LRD was a run down area of town and most of the shops didnt seem to last long.

By the time i could drive and explore for myself in the mid 90's the shop had gone.

I think it was one of those 'blink and you miss it' moments.

It was actally there for quite a few years  the owner used to live close by (in the house the Sunrise Scheme bloke lives in now), and was often having loud house parties with raids and so on going on (I think drugs came into it)  I always used to think there was more than met the eye there but I may have been wrong and just being cynical I think he used to supply period stuff for TV programmes as well,  I m desperately trying to remember his name it was Tony but cant recall the second name it will come to me - Spearing I think it was

Could it be Barry Spearing ?  Recently in the papers for doing naughty things.  Meryl it was at the Pakefield end of London road south.

It was definitely Tony but not sure of the spelling of the surname  don't think it was the same one, think Tony went to Southwold after lowestoft

Meryl it was just below Carlton Rd turn out on LRS (same side of the road) three or four shops stood back, there are flats there now . There was originally a butchers called Hodgons then a motorcycle shop a little boutique at one time

Well I'm a year and a half late but the surname you are looking for is Geering. He now owns and runs The Dome art and antiques centre in Southwold and has had a couple of TV appearances on antique shows.
