Mark's Gents Hairdressers in Clemence Street
« Posted: 01 June 2009 at 06:05 PM »
Does anyone know about the barber shop in Clemence Street run by a man called Mark?
Wanted to know whether you have any memories of him and whether you know any more information about his shop??

I got my hair cut there for a long time and only changed because my son s ex girlfriend now does my hair.
He is a great bloke with all the up to date jokes and a sign above the door saying- coach parties welcome.
Inside you will find a display of old shaving mugs and shaving memorabilia.

Yes he knows his jokes does Mark!
He cut my hair from the age of about five until I left Lowestoft in 2007 at the age of 16
I miss his sense of humour and his brilliant hairdressing
Just wondering does anyone know him as a close personal friend and how long he has been based at Clemence Street and what the shop used to be at all

It could be worth your writing to him - sorry, I don't know the property number in Clemence Street - but would have thought if you adrress it to:
Mark Drew,
Hairdresser
Clemence Street
Lowestoft.
It should get to him OK.

Think that the shop you’re referring isn’t Mark’s place. Next door, or next-door-but-one to his there is an old shop on the corner of Clemence Street and Hervey Street – think that could be the one you referred to.

I remember Mark's. I use to have my hair cut there in the early 80's, He used to do a really good "Flat top" (I was well into Madness!!)
If I remember, he used to play the sax, And if I'm right, he has a brother/relation called Gary who is a fantastic drummer who also teaches (or used to) drums.

I started having my hair cut there when mark opened up whenever it was and I was the proud owner of a car sticker proclaiming "I had it off at Marks hairdressers" for a couple of years. As I recall it was in a fitted out garage behind a house. He's still there and my best mate still has his hair cut there regularly. Mark was a member of the Lowestoft Players and used to be in the pantomime every year. I worked with his brother Gary when we were both apprentices at Clowes in the early 70's. Gary packed in his apprenticeship early (in the casters) and went to work at Darlings off Victoria Rd, you know, the place that used to catch fire every year or so. He is a drum teacher but I don't know if he has a proper job too (sorry Gary). I live over 300 miles away now so if anybody goes in to the hairdressers please tell Mark John Harper says hi!
