Old(ish) North Lowestoft pictures « Posted: 14 May 2009 at 03:04 PM »

I would be very interested if any of our members would have any pictures of North Lowestoft (St Maggies Road and the surrounding areas) from the 70's and 80's.

Having been brought up on the corner of St Mags and Oxford Road I would be very interested in hearing (and maybe seeing) any memories other members might have of those times

Don' t have any photos but remember the area and the time well.  Do you remember the little shop half way up Oxford Road on the right hand side, I think it sold toys etc?  What was the little shop at the Church Road end opposite the little food store?  I used to go to Brownies around that time at Boston Lodge.  It was always a nice area at that time, don't know what it is like now, as I have moved away.  The post office in St Margarets Road was always nice, lots of sweets to choose from I remember!  Oh and the DIY shop Addisons?  always smelt really nice. Smiley  Would like to see the photos from the 60's if poss.

Does anyone have any photos of the 1953 flood in particular the Beach village, that I can use to show my class?

There is a book called 'Wall of Water' by Royal Flaxman all about the 1953 flooding of Lowestoft and Oulton Broad.  It has lots of really good photos in it.

You may be able to get it in Waterstones too, can't remember the price, but it's not expensive.

Unfortunately, that book is out of print.  Amazon have 3 secondhand copies priced at £25 & £30 each.
The Library has a number of copies available.

Wow Trigger, why are they so expensive?  I am sure I didn't pay anything like that for mine, although mine is a paperback one. Are they hardback ones?
