I have that same picture of Portland in my lounge Joe and I got mine from the Navy photographer as well, and I was still working there when the base closed down, my pic is only in Black and White though. Joe if you wanted to send me your add: in Lowestoft I could send you a local paper or the pages that are written about Portland for you to read if so let me know, cant see I will get any pics before Xmas getting busy now with everything, but will get some of weymouth when we go to town next week, trouble is I have to wait for my daughter to scan them for me first, and you wouldnt believe how busy she is, although Ken told me that you can take your pics into a shop and they will scan them for you anyway let me know if you would like any info in the paper re: Portland ok. I do agree about Dorset Joe it`s a great place ,and I am surprised at the amount of interesting places here.

Hi Free  the boats tie up in about three places now at the Harbour and we have about a dozen pubs all round there if not more so it is a job to know which one you mean and I dont drink beer Free it`s all the same to me,   Grin  my daughter thinks where you stayed at Hoseasons it  was a holiday park  that was near to Preston a bit east of Weymouth .Dont forget to look in at WWW.Weymouth-Dorset.co.uk there are loads of pics of Weymouth and Portland   and maybe they have upgraded them re: the facilities there now for 2012 maritime Olympics o k.  Smiley

With a digital camera you don't have to scan the photos taken, they are downloaded from yopur camera, then reduced in pix-size and uploaded here.

If you want to scan in non-digital photos from the past - for example of Focke Wulffs  shooting past your work place - then you should buy a scanner which automatically turns these into digital form. But there you have to ask an expert shop. I bought one some years ago from Canon and it takes hours to do anything.

And no more excuses, please, Sunny - we've been waiting months for your photos and you didn't even say after which Christmas you're going to put them up 2009, 2010 .... 2020 !  Grin

If it is a digital camera - bought original - then in the package there is probably a USB-cable  and also a CD-disk with a software program on it. You must check the handbook of course, but basically you connect the camera to the cable to the computer, then put in the CD and wait till something happens. Usually a screen comes up telling you what to do and at sometime you switch on the camera and it all works out automatically.

Later, when everything has been set up and you've taken some photos, you reconnect the camera to the computer, switch it on, the software appears and you can download your photos to where you want to. Although mine go somewhere else, Windows has a special place called "My photos" (German translation) and everything goes there. To upload to LoL you'll need a free program like "Pix Resizer" to reduce the size of the photos. When you get that far, ask again.

Thankyou Lionel  I can see what you mean now ,but I was about to buy a new camera when my son-in-law said I could have his as he was getting a new one, so that`s how I came with this, but he didnt mention of the cable to connect cam to P C, so I guess I will have to see him and get details from him for buying one ,or if I can have his old one if he got a new one with his new camera, but thanks for your instructions they will help me when I get it . I do have pics in "My Pics" folders thanks and I do use Pix- Resizer already, thankyou for that helpful info. Smiley Smiley wave

I asked Peter my son-in-law about the software with the camera that he gave me Lionel ,and he said after Christmas he will give me the cable and Disc, and show me what to do, so that is good, as I will be able to get pics on here then ,  Joe has been waiting ages for some, as he used to live in Portland  so good news there then. Thanks to you for explaining that to me, so when does one need to use a scanner then Lionel, thankyou.  say Hi to Ratty ! Smiley Smiley wave
