Memorable TV « Posted: 17 November 2008 at 09:51 AM »

I read last night that Reg Varney had passed away at the grand age of 92 and i thought of him in, On The Buses, and how we used to laugh our socks off at the antics of Stan and Bob.

Reg was 50 when he landed the part of Stan who's character was 35years old and his youthful looks meant he got away with it.

Olive oh my did she get some stick from that orrible husband of hers but we laughed and laughed.

I never missed On The Buses and even went to the cinema to see one of their films way back in 1973.

Happy memories of a great sitcom.

What is your memorable TV programme or TV momemt?

Parky and that bl--dy Emu.  laugh

Bernie Clifton and that damned bird of his..........he made me cringe.

Awwwwww and of course the best bird of all had to be Orville with Ketih Harris.

Our daughter loved Orville and her daddy took her to see them locally where she carried her beloved bird to the show.
Happy memories.

1st TV memory is Watch with Mother, my fav was Trumpton and Camberwick Green.
2nd memory was Romper Room and Playschool.
Oh yeah and Crackerjack (CRACKERJACK!!) I wanted a pencil BAD!!
Then Basil Brush-boom boom! What was the guy's name Mr ? He was in Yes Minister later on.
Also the Goodies which was just silly.
I liked Bread in the 80's as well as the other Carla Lane sitcom in the 70's The Liver Birds ( I couldn't wait to grow up and live in a flat with a friend!)
Does anyone remember And Mother makes 3 with Wendy Craig? I also liked Butterflies with her in (that was written by Carla Lane too I think)
Later it was lots of american shows-Starsky and Hutch, Donny and Marie (yeah yeah, I know I was a sad teen!)Dallas (we used to have a drink whenever the cast had one-man were we drunk!)
I loved Red Dwarf too, hope to get that on DVD soon, and Ab-Fab, French and Saunders, Fawlty Towers.
As for new TV I really liked Life on Mars and can't wait for the spin-off set in the 80's.
Whew, I guess I love TV! Smiley

Michelle loved to watch the Children's shows when we were stationed in England and living in Halstead.I still remember her singing:-
Basil, the farmer, the knight in shining armor,
Fought against injustice with his sword held high. And all his enemies used to tremble at the knees,
And everywhere he went you heard his battle cry.How about you Violet(varlet)She always sang "violet" instead of varlet!
I loved All Creatures great and small, and Upstairs,Downstairs and any of the detective shows, and Lovejoy.,
Over here it was Dynasty & Dallas and Knots Landing.Oh yes and I loved Bonanza!

I loved Upstairs, Downstairs too-that's another DVD collection I'd love but at $250 I think I'll be waiting awhile.
All creatures was a lovely sunday afternoon show.
I detested that awful darts game show with Bully that was on Sundays-what was it called-oh yeah Bullseye I think! Roll Eyes
Remember The Golden Shot?  "Bernie the bolt please!"
Magic Roundabout of course-even more once I got older!

I remember around 1983/4 a show called Auf Wiedersehen Pet.  I loved Brookside when it first started too.   I used to like the programs that were all about holidays.  When I was 17 or 18 they featured Jamaica on there one week and I thought it looked lovely and said that I was going there one day.  My a$$hole uncle told me that I'd never get there!  Well, I've been there a few times and the first time I sent him a postcard and reminded him of what he had told me Wink

Oh god, I hated that show too!

What was the show with Dusty Bin?  I want to say 321, but maybe I'm getting them all mixed up.  Anyway, it was another show I hated, but everyone else in the family seemed to like them

It was 3-2-1 Karen and the Dusty Bin was the Booby prize.

I loved that show and one year my Nan made all the children their own Dusty Bins as we wanted one Grin.  I had mine for years.

I remember at work once we were debating children's tv and I declared confidently that the Pink Panther (cartoon) had been on before bed-time.  Another colleague agreed with me but a third one disputed this stating it had been at tea-time and was nowhere near bedtime.  After about 30 minutes mulling it over, we realised that Sue (the tea-time voter) was 8 years older than us which explained the slight discrepancy Cheesy.  I used to watch it in my pyjamas so I was pretty sure of my grounds.
